Ruby (Manik) 4.17 Carat (4.6 Ratti) Oval Faceted – LRB91 detail

Description

Ruby, called Manik or Manikya, is the red variety of the mineral corundum (aluminium oxide), the same mineral family as sapphire. Its red colour comes from traces of chromium. In Sanskrit it is also called ratnaraj, the king of gems.

Ruby is very hard, 9 on the Mohs scale, which makes it durable for everyday rings. Colour ranges from pinkish red to deep red, and most rubies show some inclusions. Colour, clarity, cut and carat weight all affect a ruby's value.

Who is this for?

People with Leo, Aries, Scorpio or Sagittarius as their lagna (ascendant), and anyone advised by an astrologer to strengthen Surya, such as those in leadership, administration, government or public-facing roles. Ruby is a strong planetary gemstone, so get your kundli checked by an astrologer before wearing it.
