More about Ruby (Manik) 3.94 Carat (4.3 Ratti) Oval Faceted – LRB95

Description
Ruby, called Manik or Manikya, is the red variety of the mineral corundum (aluminium oxide), the same mineral family as sapphire. Its red colour comes from traces of chromium. In Sanskrit it is also called ratnaraj, the king of gems.
Ruby is very hard, 9 on the Mohs scale, which makes it durable for everyday rings. Colour ranges from pinkish red to deep red, and most rubies show some inclusions. Colour, clarity, cut and carat weight all affect a ruby's value.
